HiQA Geotechnical opens new Asphalt Laboratory

The largest independent testing lab in Northern Australia is now open for business.

For the first time, Northern Territory construction, defence and mining industries have access to a construction materials testing operation that conducts in-house assessments for road projects from investigation to sealing.

The official opening of HiQA Geotechnical’s new Asphalt Laboratory on July 1, 2017, means locals have better access to asphalt and bitumen testing – specifically, the review and testing of:

• Bitumen content;
• Particle size distribution;
• Marshall block testing;
• Stability and flow;
• Maximum density;
• Voids ratio; and
• Thickness.

The facility is the largest independent testing laboratory of its kind in Northern Australia. This testing scope expansion means clients can conduct quality assurance activities undertaken on all asphalt and bitumen products.

The laboratory launch comes after HiQA Geotechnical won the 2017 Telstra Northern Territory Business of the Year on Tuesday July 4, 2017. In June, HiQA newcomer James Acton also took out the Rae Snodgrass Apprentice of the Year at the Civil Contractors Federation NT Earth Awards.
